  1. I love horror and general creepiness so it is hard to choose! I just read Grady Hendrix’s Horrorstör and it was so unique, funny and scary!

  4. When I was a kid I loved an anthology – STRANGELY ENOUGH. I have searched and searched for it over the years but have never found it. It was a fantastic collection of all the ghost/horror/scary stories kids over 30 yrs grew up hearing.

  5. I really like Mary Higgins Clark…does that count as spooky or scary? Some of them are pretty scary. I don’t have a favorite of hers, I like them all.

  6. My favorite spooky book to read is Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke 🙂

  8. My all time favorite is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I read it when I was in elementary school and have loved scary movies/books ever since!

  22. The first book that ever really scared me was The Shining so I think it remains my favorite for nostalgia reasons lol

  23. Honestly I don’t do scary much but there are lots of books with scary parts, for example Harry Potter, or the Throne of Glass series, and I could just run on and on about my favorite books that have scary parts to them but honestly I love all of them

  25. The book I’m thinking of is a book that was written years ago. My book would be The Shining by Stephen King.

  27. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake surprised me with just how scary it actually was. I wasn’t expecting to be afraid of the dark days after reading it. haha

  36. “The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson. I love the original movie made from it, too. Don’t waste your time with the remake.

  41. I do not like scary or spooky stories so I do not have one, Sorry! I tend to have nightmares~!

  45. I read a true story murder, that took place in a nearby city where I live. During that time, I was going to school in that area, which really freaked me out. Never See Them Again by M. William Phelps, kept me awake late at night. The scariest stories for me, are the real ones. And, that one is truly scary!

  51. I love so many of them, so I don’t know that I could pick just one, but I love any paranormal/spirits book! Anything with ghosts is fine with me, especially if it can give me the willies.

  72. This honor most definitely will have to go to The Demonata series by Darren Shan. It will keep you up at night!

  73. One of the creepiest books I’ve read lately was Rick Yancey’s The 5th Wave. The idea of aliens terrifies me!

  75. I like Unbreakable by Kami Garcia! It’s kinda Supernatural (The TV Show) -ish, and that is one of my favorites as well!

  77. One of the boos that gave me the chills was the fifth wave, i think that even is its not a scary book, it tells us a story that we all, like humanity, are scared: the invasion, and the way its written its awesome.

  97. THE GHOSTS’ TRIP TO LOCH NESS isn’t really scary, but it does have a bunch of ghosts and one monster!

  104. I really am curious what these paranormal scary books that people are talking about. To be honest, I haven’t found a spooky book in years. Always just too easy to stop reading unlike website screamers or video game jump scares.

  105. I don’t really read scary books. I have read Sleepers and that was pretty messed up and scary!

  114. My favorite scary book is HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA. It scared the wits out of me when I read it and it still scares me when I think about it.

  126. It’s not meant to be a horror novel but Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None scared me so much and it is definitely a favourite of mine.

  152. I usually don’t go for spooky/scary (maybe a demon or ghost related series, but not REALLY scary), but I really liked The Waking Dark by Robin Wasserman even though it terrified me.

  154. The first Stephen King book I ever read was Salem’s Lot, and it has stayed a favorite of mine for years.

  160. I don’t read spooky books, but The Stand was an exception–I thought it was brilliant, and incredibly scary.

  173. You may not consider it scary, but when I was a kid I was terrified of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It was the scene where Grandpa arrives in Vulgaria, I was certain something terrible was going to happen to him!

  308. 172 HOURS ON THE MOON is a FANTASTIC read. It’s so spooky and twisty and you really don’t see the end coming.
