The woods were insane in the dark, terrifying and magical at the same time. But best of all were the stars, which trumpeted their light into the misty dark.
Castella Cresswell and her five siblings—Hannan, Caspar, Mortimer, Delvive, and Jerusalem—know what it’s like to be different. For years, their world has been confined to their ramshackle family home deep in the woods of upstate New York. They abide by the strict rule of God, whose messages come directly from their father.
Slowly, Castley and her siblings start to test the boundaries of the laws that bind them. But, at school, they’re still the freaks they’ve always been to the outside world. Marked by their plain clothing. Unexplained bruising. Utter isolation from their classmates. That is, until Castley is forced to partner with the totally irritating, totally normal George Gray, who offers her a glimpse of a life filled with freedom and choice.
Castley’s world rapidly expands beyond the woods she knows so well and the beliefs she once thought were the only truths. There is a future waiting for her if she can escape her father’s grasp, but Castley refuses to leave her siblings behind. Just as she begins to form a plan, her father makes a chilling announcement: the Cresswells will soon return to their home in heaven. With time running out on all of their lives, Castley must expose the depth of her father’s lies. The forest has buried the truth in darkness for far too long. Castley might be their last hope for salvation.
"As dark and lovely--and at times as chilling--as a midnight stroll through deepest woods. Wass is a startlingly brilliant new voice, with a can't-miss debut." --- NYT Bestselling Author of AND I DARKEN, Kiersten White
"Haunting, unexpected, beautifully written.... In the Dark, In The Woods is one of the best books I've read this year." --- Award-winning Author of ASKING FOR IT, Louise O'Neill

I promised myself that I was just going to glance at the first few pages of this one and then 200 pages later and much past my bedtime, I decided that I should just finish it. The story revolves around 6 teen Cresswell siblings that are living in isolation with their religious parents until a neighbor finds one injured and contacts social services. Castley is the main voice of this tale and she is the most relatable. She wants to be like the other girls in her school. Her father is a junk man and they survive on selling cast-offs at a second-hand market. Things aren’t going to well and food is scarce.
There are so many creepy moments and things that make you go OH! to even imagine that a family can live this way. Having never lived anyway else, the teens are quite sure that this normal and that God has a plan for them. Their mother is broken and in pain most of the time while their father preaches his own gospel. These kids seem to yearn for something more when they realize that their lives are nowhere near normal. I am hoping that this slice of life book is nowhere near the truth since this was such a creepy read.

I have to say, the publishers have been making the arc packages amazing. Of course, I am only seeing it all on the internet, but it is still cute. (and I <3 Schatze's uncover)
I like the cover of the book and the plot of the book! I like the character names. This sounds like a good twist on the classic story!
I think he uncovered a box full of worms
Schatze uncovered a bone, but whose is it is the mystery.
I would say Schatze uncovered some bones! Thank you
Maybe he found the doll from the cover
I think he found the meaning of life. 😉
Besides the book? No idea but I’d love to see!
I think it was probably bones. Thanks for this chance.

Something good to read! I’m really looking forward to reading this, it sounds twisted in the kind of way I tend to find hard to put down. 😀 Thanks for the review and giveaway!
