The Third Kiss (Love’s Mortal Coil #1)

by Kat Colmer
Publication Date:  August 7, 2017
Publisher:  Entangled Teen

Love curses don’t exist. At least that’s what Jonas, master of the meaningless hookup, tells himself when a letter warns him he’s an Eros Guardian cursed to endure a test of true love or forever be alone. His levelheaded longtime friend Cora figures it’s a revenge prank by an ex. The way Jonas stamps each girlfriend with a weeklong use-by date, it serves him right.

But when an impulsive kiss between the two friends reveals potential for more, Cora becomes the target of the Groth Maar: demons sent to wipe out the Eros Guardian line. And suddenly the curse becomes dangerously real.

Breaking the curse means Jonas’s biggest challenge yet. Failure guarantees Cora’s death. But success may cost him his own life…and the loss of his carefully guarded heart to the one girl far too sensible to fall for him.

This has got to be one of the best guest post ideas ever! Okay, my writing desk is small—on purpose! That way I can’t pile it high with stuff that gets in my way when I’m trying to write. It also means others don’t feel tempted to leave their stuff all over my desk. Well, mostly.

Writing Tools

No surprise to see a laptop on my desk. I write on my laptop about 80% of the time. Sometimes though, if I find the words aren’t flowing, I switch to pen and notebook, and my current notebook is the black leather-bound journal sitting in the left hand corner of my desk. This was a present from my daughter. When she saw it, she immediately thought of the Book of Threads, a mystical book that features in The Third Kiss.

You’ll also see a bottle of ink next to the leather notebook. This was another great writerly gift, this time from my husband, who bought me a beautiful fountain pen for our wedding anniversary a few years ago. I LOVE writing with a fountain pen! Somehow it transforms the writing process into something that little bit more elegant, although all the crossing out and scribbling all over the pages doesn’t look all that elegant.

Hydration

Writing is a strenuous activity that requires adequate hydration, preferably in the form of tea or coffee. I always have a cup—or two. Maybe three—at hand.

Inspiration

One of my critique partners swears by the power of a lit candle when it comes to unlocking creativity. I’m not sold, but figured it can’t hurt, right? The one on my desk is lemon myrtle scented. Quite nice really, although it has the unfortunate side effect of making me hungry for lemon cheesecake.

Another indirect form of inspiration–or maybe more a form of encouragement–comes from the photo on the right of my two kids. It’s nice to have them sitting there, smiling at me, urging me to up my word count. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.

Organization

I’m a huge fan of to-do lists! I have a special to-do diary where I make my lists. And yes, I add things to the lists that weren’t there to begin with only so I can cross them off and make it look like I’ve been productive. Don’t judge me.

Book Swag

Lastly, there’s some book swag for The Third Kiss lying around on my desk, namely some earrings in the shape of little katana swords, which reminded me of The Sword of Absolom, a deadly weapon featured in the novel.

And that’s what’s on my desk—on a tidy day. Thanks for taking a peek!

If I was in the Eros Guardian line and only had three more chances to find real love, I would take those chances and find real love. 😉 Thanks for the giveaway.

Do you believe in love, or are you like Jonas Leander from The Third Kiss, who thinks it’s a waste of time?

Oh yes, I believe in love! It’s not a waste of time, but you can’t force it, if you are lucky, like a bird it will land on your shoulder when you least expect it.

I believe in love, and I believe you need love in your life to be happy. I do however think it’s hard to be with someone though, it’s definitely not all fairy tale.

If I found out I were in the Eros Guardian line and only had three more chances to find real love, I wouldn’t actively look for it, but I would be open to the possibility.
