Mercury Rises by Scarlett Kol
Publication Date:  February 13, 2018
Publisher:  Inkspell Publishing

A girl looking for a way out.

Being the daughter of New America’s leader, Mercury Masters has everything a girl could want. A glamorous life full of beautiful people, and the power to have anything she wants, except for one thing—to escape. Because Mercury’s perfect life comes with secrets to keep. Dangerous secrets that if made public would destroy her, her family, and her father’s reign. Then she meets Hawk.

A boy looking to be a hero.

Hawk, a handsome prep school dropout turned vigilante, has his own family secrets. Deadly secrets that have haunted him since he was fifteen. But instead of fighting the ghosts of his past, Hawk has assembled a group of misfit hackers and thieves to save the future from the corrupt government of New America and the mysterious virus that is killing off its citizens. But trying to do the right thing is tough when the person you really want to save is your enemy’s daughter.

A love that could kill them both.

Powerful forces keep them apart, but coming together could be the key to saving New America from destruction—even though it may cost both their lives.

A near-future YA biopunk retelling of Robin Hood.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Scarlett Kol grew up in Northern Manitoba reading books and writing stories about creatures that make you want to sleep with the lights on. As an adult, she’s still a little afraid of the dark. Scarlett now lives just outside Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with her husband and two boys, but if you need to find her she’s likely freezing at the hockey rink.

Hello all, and thank you to BookHounds for letting me visit the blog today! Fortunately for everyone I’m in the middle of renovations to my office so my desk is actually somewhat clean instead of hidden under mountains of paper like it usually is (and probably will be again in a few weeks, no matter how hard I try).

I’ve usually just had a desk pushed in the corner of this room, but now I get the whole space to myself. I also jazzed up the place and painted that lovely dark blue color on the wall. It’s called “Inked”. I figured it was fate.

Now for the desk: I have my MacBook (I’m an Apple convert – never going back) on which I do all my important things like write my stories and cruise Youtube/Twitter/Pinterest. Also if you look closely to the screen, you might just see the cover of my new book WICKED DESCENT that comes out in March from Evernight Teen.

To the right is my “Reading is Sexy” pencil mug because you have to have somewhere to store the red pens and highlighters and, yes, reading IS sexy.

To the left is the second half of the manuscript that I’m working on (dual POV YA paranormal with Scottish mythology) and the notebooks that I have all of my writing info in. I actually write most of my novels long hand and then type them up. It takes much longer this way, but I have this weird connection between my brain and my hands that works better when they are holding a pen. I also have a sick collection of journals because of all the hand writing I do. I heart my Superman moleskin journal.

The small green and yellow box holds the lovely “On the Mark” necklace from Stella & Dot that is waiting for someone to win it in my blog tour raffle (see entry form below).

My “Don’t Quit Your Daydream” sign is there for when I need a little inspiration. To the right is also a full wall of inspirational quotes about not giving up and lines from my favorite books. I need those more than you know sometimes.

Post-its to feed my stationary addiction. I have a problem, I’m aware, but they are so handy and come in fun colors!

My reading pin-up girl picture, because it’s cute and as we discussed above, reading is sexy.

And finally, my iPhone in its sparkly Kate Spade case. I am easily distracted by shiny things and I love fun girly accessories.
