It’s summer romance and second chances, the songs that stay in your head, and the boy you’ll never forget.
Two years after rock-song-worthy heartbreak, Virginia Miller is looking forward to a fun, carefree summer. Her friends just landed a spot on a battling bands reality show, and Vee is joining them for her dream internship on tour. Three months with future rockstars seems like an epic summer plan. Until she learns she’ll also be sharing the bus with Cam. Her first love, and her first heartbreak. Now Vee has more than just cameras to dodge, and Cam’s determination to win her forgiveness is causing TMZ-worthy problems for both of them. With cameras rolling, she’ll have to decide if her favorite breakup anthem deserves a new ending. And if she’s brave enough to expose her own secrets to keep Cam’s under wraps.
Breaking Vee’s heart was never Cam’s plan. All he wanted senior year was a new life, in a new town, uninterrupted by the tragedy he left behind. Then Vee swept him into a whirlwind of friendship, musical adventure, and a love he didn’t expect or want. Now, he has a second chance to make it right. But things get complicated when ratings-crazy producers, cameramen, and fans are involved. Can he rewrite their love song with the whole world watching?
Sometimes the last note is just the beginning. Love Songs & Other Lies is the debut romance from Jessica Penningtonthat Katie McGarry calls “fun and full of heart with a hero who stole my heart!”

Jessica Pennington is no stranger to the combination of love and drama. She’s a wedding planner, after all. A writer since the age of ten—when she sought publication for her poem about a tree—Jessica likes the challenge of finding the humor in a sad situation or highlighting the awkwardness in a romantic one. She lives in a Michigan beach town suspiciously similar to the one in her novel, with her husband Josh and their son, Rory. Love Songs & Other Lies is her debut novel.

A few months ago I moved my office into our dining room, because writing was a much better use for the giant picture window, versus the one or two dinners we might host each year. There are bookshelves along one wall and the dining room table has been repurposed as a work space (very handy to package things up for my street team and pre-order campaign) but this is the corner where all the writing happens!
My desk – I bought this desk specifically for writing, so it holds a special place in my heart. Old things I’ve written are literally shoved in the drawers, and I love finding old post-its and notecards and other treasures.
She Believed She Could So She Did sign – It’s hiding, but this is one of my favorite sayings ever, and I love having it tucked right next to my desk, where it’s in my peripheral vision at all times!
Touch It Every Day sign – This was a keepsake from the Novel In A Year group I was in while writing Love Songs & Other Lies in 2014. Our group collected little sayings during out time together and we put them on mugs and t-shirts and binders. We all got these signs as a reminder that we need to write something every day.
Corkboard Keepsakes – I’m a huge nerd when it comes to keeping sentimental things. What I have up on my corkboard is just the tip of the iceberg, I have a whole drawer in my office full of conference badges and panel brochures, and more! On my corkboard I have some of my recent favorites. The cover letter from my LS&OL editorial notes, a sticker I bought during my trip to NY to meet everyone at my publisher, a note from my agent, and a picture of my son when he was a baby (not because he’s publishing-related, just because he’s adorable).
Calendars – I always have so many things going, that it’s really easy for me to become overwhelmed and forget something. So I’m a totally nut for lists and organization. These calendars are for writing-related tasks only! It really helps me to put deadlines into perspective when I can see a 2-month snapshot.
Magnetic board – This guy does double-duty. He’s very often covered in post-it notes, so I can have plotting notes right next to me (I’m very visual) but he can also be used as a dry-erase board!
Wedding photo – The canvas over my desk is of my me and my husband on our wedding day. It’s one of my favorites, and since I write love stories, it seems only appropriate to have a memento of my own love story in my writing space! People are always asking me how we got a picture of us driving in the car, and our photographer is sitting on the back of the convertible behind us. We weren’t going nearly as fast as it looks like, I promise!
Full disclosure, this is a picture of my desk this fall, back when it was cleaner. But other than the months on the calendar and a few more stray items on my desk, this is my usual set-up!
