How would you get mail if you lived in the middle of the sea? It’s Jo’s dad’s job to deliver it, taking bottles wherever they need to go. He always comes home with exciting stories to tell-but Jo is far too afraid to go out on the ocean herself. Until Dad gets a bad sea cold, that is. With no one but Jo to deliver the bottles, she must find her courage and set sail alone. As she embarks on her mission, her fears just might be replaced with new friendships . . . and grand stories of her own.
With beautiful, atmospheric art and endearing new characters by author-illustrator Cale Atkinson, this picturebook is a treasure.

Like any artist at work, my desk is usually stacked with papers, pencils and of course, some toys close by.
Here is a photo of my full desk area in my wife Jessika and I’s home studio. This is where I’ve worked away completing all my books thus far, including Off and Away. Let me point out a couple of my favourite, and must have items around my desk.
1) This is an old Disney magazine I found years back that is autographed by 4 of the top Disney animators from way back in early days of Disney Animation (Ward Kimball, Marc Davis, Frank Thomas, and Ollie Johnston). It’s one of my top treasures and never ceases to inspire me. If you’re wondering, yes I completely added my own name overtop the original name that the magazine was autographed for.
2) I always need my supplies bag close by, chock full of pencils, pens and other means of art making. Various papers are also a must have. My desk is usually piled high with random sketches, doodles, and an assortment of chicken scratchy drawings. You never know when those chicken scratches will turn into a book!
3) I’m really happy with my little idea box here. I was gifted this from a school that I spoke at. The box was given to me as a place to store all my new book ideas. I’m still working to fill it up!
4) My desk shelves have all sorts of toys, including some of my most favourite possessions. A great friend of mine made me the above 3 sculptures of the characters from my books To the Sea, Where Oliver Fits, and Explorers of the Wild. Another friend of mine made me the plush version of Sam of the whale from To the Sea.
Thanks for stopping by my studio!
