Just when Grace is beginning to get used to being an orphan, her estranged uncle suddenly comes forward to claim her. That might have been okay if he’d spoken to her even once since her father died. Or if moving in with Uncle Rusty didn’t mean returning to New Harbor.
Grace once spent the best summers of her life in New Harbor. Now the place just reminds her of all she’s lost: her best friend, her boyfriend and any memory of the night that changed her forever.
People say the truth will set you free, but Grace isn’t sure about that. Once she starts looking for it, the truth about that night is hard to find — and what happens when her healing hurts the people she cares about the most?

1. What is on your nightstand?
a. A hardcover of my latest read, Kelly deVos’ Fat Girl on a Plane.
b. A tin of Bag Balm for my dry hands.
c. A journal that—for inexplicable reasons—I never actually use.
d. The rose my husband gave me when we first started dating, nearly 25 years ago.
2. What author would you totally fan?
Matthew Quick. I’d probably dig his grocery lists out of a dumpster, just to squeeze a few more words out of him.
Just kidding.
Kind of.
3. What makes you cringe?
The three Ss: sushi, spit, and snakes.
4. Do you obsessively plot out each point or just go with the flow?
I start out with a basic outline and plot points, but I use them more as suggestions—ideas for me to test, delete, and/or rearrange into something that feels genuine to the story as it unfolds.
5. Is there a word you love to use?
Ooooo…I love the word Godspeed. Not sure why, exactly, but I’m guessing it’s because it’s Middle English and uncommon.
I’ve attached a couple of photos of my Australian Kelpie, Layla. Thank you so much for this fabulous interview!

The cover is beautiful! The premise sounds exactly like my favorite kind of book to read–emotional with a strong character faced with many obstacles.
This looks like a fabulous book. I can’t wait to read it!
