Christina Mandelski was born in South Florida, where her love of reading was cultivated in a house full of books. Stories like The Little House series, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Island of the Blue Dolphins and The Secret Garden, filled her imagination and fueled her dreams to be a writer. - What is on your nightstand?
Waiting for Tom Hanks, by Kerry Winfrey, which was a really funny book about a woman who is obsessed with romcoms and on the hunt for her very own Tom Hanks (or any stereotypical romcom leading man-type). I highly recommend it.
- What author would you totally fan?
I love Jojo Moyes of Me Before You fame. I loved that book (and the two that follow it) but I love her other books too. From contemporary to historical, the woman can do it all, and I seriously admire her and always get lost in her books!
- What makes you cringe?
Snakes and lizards (or as I call them, snakes with legs). I live in Houston, which is full of them, so I cringe a lot.
- Do you obsessively plot out each point or just go with the flow?
I tend to create a general outline of the pivotal scenes in the book, and try to stick to that outline, but it’s the scenes in between that often surprise me and sometimes take the story in a new direction. So the answer, I guess, is yes and no.
- Is there a word you love to use?
In Stuck With You, I use “all right” a lot, so much so that I had to cut some of them. I blame Matthew McConaughey, whose personality I sort of borrowed for my main character, Caleb.
