“Not darkness, not light, perhaps something in between, and is claimed by the darkness…as theirs. Though being saved by the light, that which is saved must in turn save the world…”
Darshun Luthais has never experienced the Nasharin Frenzy—the unbending will to challenge a stronger opponent, no matter the cost. He doesn’t know what he will transform into, has never bonded with an elemental crystal and has never seen any of the unearthly creatures his father talks about. Even though he’s an infant in Nasharin years, his life consists of nothing but constant training, striving to unlock the sleeping power his so-called accursed race is born with.
But all that changes when he is pursued by a Dream Assassin in the dead of night. What he witnesses will forever change his outlook on life and lead him on a quest only the strongest can complete.
INTERVIEW
- What is on your nightstand?
Right now? A 1954 Godzilla figure, and also King Ghidorah (Godzilla’s rival). Yes, they’re toys, but I treat them like decorations. I’m a huge Kaiju fan!
- What author would you totally fan?
You know, back in the day I used to think “I’d never run up to a famous actor or musician behaving like some crazed fanboy.” What did I do when I saw the singer of one of my favorite bands exiting the venue? I run to him, nearly grabbing his hand to shake it, and say “You guys rule, dude!” *facepalm*
So above all, I guess I’d love to meet and totally fan J.R.R. Tolkien and thank him for the mental adventure he took me on and also for inspiring me to create my own. But that’s never going to happen…
- What makes you cringe?
Country music (no offense 😊 ), and seeing children and animals in need of help. I’ve had many animals throughout my life, rats, mice, ferrets, bunnies, cats and dogs. It’s been a lifetime with them. And while I understand not everyone can be saved, and at times this world can be ugly, it feels good knowing I saved a few from what could have been a life of abuse or poor-quality. And when it comes to my son, well, he saved MY life! But that is for another story…
- Do you obsessively plot out each point or just go with the flow?
Both. First, the idea forms within my mind, and I usually take long walks and think about it. And think, and think… In fact, a good majority of the story forms in my head before even writing one single word. Once the writing process begins, I’ll sometimes just fade into the flow, and new ideas will happen. It’s rather quite fun, therapeutic, good for the heart. I’m sure every creative writer understands this.
- Is there a word you love to use?
Many words are beautiful depending on how you construct them. They’re like drum patterns to a guitar rhythm or melody. Changing the drum pattern can COMPLETELY alter the song into something else entirely. I think the beauty of words are like that too.
J.W. Baccaro is the author of Prophecy of the Guardian and Blood Dreams. Always a lover of creativity, from works of literature to writing music with his electric guitar; even baking and cooking. When not working on his next story or lost in a good book, J.W. enjoys kicking back with a couple of tasty craft beers and binging on Kaiju movies, 80’s action flicks, Japanese animation and slasher films (particularly the one involving a hockey mask). Heck, he even enjoys a good romantic comedy. Feel free to email him at jwbaccaro@yahoo.com. He lives in upstate NY with his wife Melissa, his son Alexander, his German Shepherd and his three cats. Look for his upcoming books The Coming of the Light: Guardian Trilogy Book 2, Piercing the Darkness: Guardian Trilogy Book 3, and The Tree of Damnation,” all coming soon.

This has a super cool cover. I enjoyed the interview and laughed when you said country music makes you cringe
haha, no offense to anybody who likes County. It’s just my least fav style of music. I’m a classic metal heat, and I also love 1700-1900 classical musical, and even some dance-dancy- girly pop, thanks to my wife. ^_^
The cover is so creative!
Thank you! I hired a great artist!!
