GUEST POST & PLAYLIST
Music permeated my childhood. I learned how to read music before I learned how to read words. My mother was a piano and voice teacher, organist, and choir director. My father played both the guitar and the radio–loudly. My sister screeched on the violin, while my brother honked on the saxophone, and I both sang and riled up all the neighbour’s dogs with the trumpet.
I suppose it is no surprise that music is an important aspect of my creative process. It is always on, tinkling in the background, influencing my mood. It is no different when I write.
When I wrote The Witch and the Dreamwalker, I set the tone by listening to a lot of music that would have been played on American radio in 1982. In our household, we listen to a lot of vinyl. The only record that we own that came out around 1982 (that isn’t hair metal courtesy of my husband’s musical tastes) is Ghost in the Machine by The Police. I listened to that record a lot. But luckily, there is also the internet, so I wasn’t always inundated with the vocal stylings of Sting.
I made a ten-song Spotify playlist based on my favourite songs of artists I listened to the most when writing this book. I hope you enjoy them and they help get you settled into the mood for a spicy paranormal romance set in the corporate world of 1982.

What vegetables do you like to grow in your garden?
A variety of tomatoes and peppers mostly. Some cucumbers. It’s all mostly herbs. I’m currently studying for a practical herbalism diploma.
I grow a variety of heirloom tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers for vegetables. But mostly, though, I grow herbs. I’m about to embark on a Practical Herbalism Diploma, so the herbs are definitely going to outnumber the vegetables!
