  My Thoughts

Flying over Agrabar on the magic carpet, Jasmine decides that she needs to see Prince Ali’s kingdom and so Genie obliges by creating the land of Aladdin’s dreams.  There is a courtyard because his mother loved them and a menagerie because Jasmine deserves to see rare birds and unusual animals.  But once in his kingdom of Ababwa, the carpet is stolen by Abbas and the pair may never get back to Agrabah.

The story is told in turns by Jasmine and Aladdin and it helps to get to know them better.  But we get to know Jasmine as a smart and independent woman who knows maps and support her people the best she can because they are the best.  The story has all of the elements of the original but includes more backstory on Abbas.  The best part is that Aladdin wonders about his lies to Jasmine and if they are worth it.  I really enjoyed this retelling and letting us get to know that the characters have grown and matured.

Schatze is in the mood
