The Sisters of Reckoning is the blockbuster sequel to Charlotte Nicole Davis’s alternate Old West-set commercial fantasy adventure.
The Good Luck Girls are free. Aster’s sister and friends have new lives across the border in Ferron, while Aster remains in Arketta, helping more girls escape. But news of a new welcome house opening fills Aster with a need to do more than just help individual girls. And an unexpected reunion gives her an idea of how to do it. From there, grows a wildly ambitious plan to free all dustbloods, who live as prisoners to Arketta’s landmasters and debt slavery.
When Clementine and the others return from Ferron, they become the heart of a vibrant group of fearless fighters, working to unite the various underclasses and convince them to join in the fight. Along the way, friendships will be forged, lives will be lost, and love will take root even in the harshest of circumstances, between the most unexpected of lovers.
But will Arketta’s dustbloods finally come into power and freedom, or will the resistance just open them up to a new sort of danger?
REVIEW
The story picks up as a new Welcome House is opening up and Aster has been living with the Lady Ghosts and sees this as an opening to free more girls now that the age has been reduced to 13. I feel her rage come through the pages and when that rage turns into fire and burns down the new House. The story uses euphemisms to get across a lot of ugly facts. Aster’s group has come together with Clementine, Zee, Tansy, Mallow, and some new characters as they capture the Landowners and in turn, burn down their businesses. Violet is now working with McClennon and running the new house which shocks but doesn’t surprise Aster. When she witnesses Violet when this awful man announces that new age of 13, she recoils in horror, she still sees her as a participant.
Aster sees her life as overthrowing the oppressors and rescuing all of the Good Luck Girls even through her own injuries. I like Eli and how much he cares for her even though she can’t feel the same way towards him. There is a bit of a twist here and not one I saw coming. The writing is spot-on descriptive and the dialogue is very believable. I really enjoyed this one even though it was difficult to read.
