“Lengard is a secret government facility for extraordinary people,” they told me.
I believed them. That was my mistake.
There isn’t anyone else in the world like me.
I’m different. I’m an anomaly. I’m a monster.
For two years, six months, fourteen days, eleven hours and sixteen minutes, Subject Six-Eight-Four — ‘Jane Doe’ — has been locked away and experimented on, without uttering a single word.
As Jane’s resolve begins to crack under the influence of her new — and unexpectedly kind — evaluator, she uncovers the truth about Lengard’s mysterious ‘program’, discovering that her own secret is at the heart of a sinister plot … and one wrong move, one wrong word, could change the world.
This reminded me so much of the best mix between Divergent and Stranger Things with a bit of Miss Peregrine thrown in for the oddness.
Jane Doe aka 684 or even just JD finds herself locked away in what seems neverending experiments both psychological and physical. The Lengard facility where Jane finds herself is void of anything pleasurable except for allowing her to physically train for battle with Enzo. She can’t speak because her voice contains powers that are difficult to describe. You just have to read it.
When Landon, her new assessor tries to break through her protective shell, I got a total Shatter Me vibe. He tries to break her down with kindness, something she has never found at the facility. She is beginning to let down her guard, even more, when Landon moves her into his sister’s home. While she is taken outside the facility, she realizes that she is in downtown Sidney, Australia. Of course, there is a dramatic moment where she proves herself as a good person.
There are some really wonderful moments and I think my favorite secondary character is Cami, who really tries to be Jane’s friend. The world building really sucks you in quickly and the ending, while sufficient, leaves an opening for another book. This is my favorite kind of fast-paced sci-fi thriller.
Lynette Noni studied journalism and academic writing at university before completing a degree in human behavior. She lives on the Sunshine Coast in Australia and can be found baking cupcakes, singing along to animated movies, or daydreaming about being swept away to a fantasy world. Some days, she can even do all three at once — and still find the time to sneak in a nap afterwards.

I like the premise for the story. Congrats on the tour.
I had a copy of this book, and my kids spilled a cup of water all over it — ruined. I was so devastated! So entering again to try to read it.
The story sounds amazing, and I really like the cover.
